Sunday Assembly - the atheist church
The Sunday Assembly is a historic phenomenon in the making - a Sunday congregation full of love, camaraderie, music, belonging, community and hope, yet without religion. With a frontman more akin to a performing rockstar than a preacher, revving up the crowd until no one can possibly sit still, the recipe is irresistible. The driving force as true altruism and compassion, bringing in question the very essence of religion in the first place.
In order for us to achieve the Global Goals, we need meeting places where we can practice compassion, recognise our shared experience, talk about what matters, and learn to see across divides. This is true for all communities - local, global, seemingly homogenous, and those with obvious divides. Sunday Assembly therefore does a great service to us, in more ways than one.
