Sapiens
Sapiens is a grandiose book, taking on a task so vast it's awe inspiring how Yuval Noah Harari manages to make it read so natural and linear. From this book, we learn about the different phases of human evolution, the key turning points that were neither obvious nor given, surprising parts of history that we're never taught at school (the incredible diversity of mega fauna present on earth before the rise of homo sapiens) and the key mental constructs and social systems that formed to allow our species to leapfrog all others and create the world we see today. A profoundly inspiring, tragic and hopeful book, all at the same time.
