Stroke Action Nigeria & an army of entrepreneurs
About
A model for systems change taken right out of Ashoka's handbook, Stroke Action is empowering an army of stroke survivors to set up as entrepreneurs and provide support services to those affected by stroke in their local communities. By providing them with income from a membership plan and the ability to sell products and services to grow their business, the organisation hopes to mobilise 1000 entrepreneurs within 10 years to completely change service provision for what is now an epidemic in Nigeria. To better empower them, founder Rita is working on all levels of the health care system and government to lobby for change, drive through policy change and uproot old attitudes towards the causes and effects of stroke.
